LATER

LATER is a short documentary film about the late effects of childhood cancer. I directed this film together with Annick Sickinghe, who had lymphoma when she was fourteen years old.

Years after her recovery, artist Annick notices that her illness is still affecting her. She talks with fellow survivors of childhood cancer about the mental and physical consequences, and visualizes these conversations in an artistic way. In LATER, Annick investigates her own coping process, which leads her to talk to peers who also suffered from childhood cancer. How do these people look back at their period of illness after 10, 20, 30, 40 or even 50 years? How does such a violent experience affect the rest of your life?

The intimate and personal interviews are interspersed with animations and poetic images that make the emotion of the story tangible.
